About Pack 38

We are committed to encouraging boys and girls to make friends, be helpful to others, and do their very best no matter the outcome. With the help of powerful learning projects and exciting outdoor activities, we aim to teach children that doing their best can be a fun and rewarding experience—no matter the difficulty of the challenge.

Pack 38 is a family pack which encourages both boys and girls in grades Kindergarten through 5th Grade to participate together in Scouting activities.

Cub Parent Weekend

July • Baiting Hollow Scout Camp hosts Cub Scouts and Parents to experience a camp program of Swimming, Boating, BB Gun, Archery, Rock Wall Climbing and Campfire traditions.
July Park Meetup

Hecksher Park Wildlife Adventure is Sunday July 27th @ 10AM. Join us at Field 4 for a hike to observe the beauty of the park while practicing the 7 Principles of Leave No Trace. Be sure to pack your Essential 6 items! Tell your friends that may be interested in Scouting, all are welcome!
Fishing Trip

August • Annual Pack 38 Fishing charter out of Captree Boat Basin. A half day of fishing the Great South Bay for fluke. Bait and Tackle is provided, check your fishing trip checklist, and good luck!

2024/2025
Past Events

Lighthouse Hike

September • Pack 38 hiked the path to the Fire Island Lighthouse and climbed to the top to observe the shoreline and ocean view.
First Pack Night of 2024

September • The year was kicked off with a night to remember! Axe throwing, making then launching bottle rockets and archery!
Montauk Hike

October • The Scouts ventured out to Montauk Lighthouse for a hike through the forest and back along the beach after stopping for lunch and watching the seals lay on the rocks in the water.
Veteran's Day Project

November • Pack 38 participated in a service project to at the local VA hospital in honor of Veterans Day. Donating several picket fence USA flags and also cleaning up some of the grounds.
Leaf Cleanup

December • Service project for our Charter Organization. The pack’s families made quick work of bagging up all these leaves!
Holiday Light Parade

December • Town of Islip’s Holiday Parade was a success.
Pinewood Derby

February • A tradition for many Cub Scouts that Pack 38 honors every year! This year the competition was fierce with close race times and very creative designs.
St Patrick's Day Parade

March • The cold didn’t stop these Cub Scouts from walking proudly!
Hatchery Hike

March • As the weather began to warm up we ventured through Connetquot State Park to the fish hatchery. A lot of new Scouts were able to show off their gear and knowledge of their environment.
Fishing Clinic

April • In preperation for fishing season the Cub Scouts were presented with the knowledge needed to prepare for a day of fishing. Later that week they were able to practice casting rods, tying knots and baiting hooks.
Garden Cleanup

April • The Scouts performing service hours at our Charter Organization’s Garden, pulling weeds and spreading fresh compost.
Animal Shelter Donation

April • A month long campaign of collecting donations the Pack was able to come up with a substantial amount of blankets, towels, kitty litter, foods, and other necessities for the Town of Islip Animal Shelter.
Race Day

May • Riverhead Raceway’s Scout Night was action packed with great racers! Scouts received free grandstand admission for an exciting night of NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series competition.
Flag Placement

May • This Memorial Day the pack participated in placing flags at the graves of our country’s fallen heroes.
Family Camping

June • This year the pack camped at Sears Bellows County Park in Hampton Bays for 3 days and 2 nights! Beautiful weather, and a lot of fun. The Scouts were able to put a lot of the lessons from the year to the test!
